The New York Jets have signed tackle Austin Howard from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Howard, 6-foot-7, 333 pounds, was signed to the Baltimore Ravens practice squad Sept. 6 after being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 3. He spent the 2010 season with Philadelphia and played four games, starting one, after being signed as an undrafted free agent, April 25, 2010. At Northern Iowa, Howard twice earned Second-Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors and was named to the 2009 Football Coaches Association’s FCS All-America team.
The Jets had released tight end Shawn Nelson earlier in the week. Nelson was signed in September after he was released by the Buffalo Bills. He did not appear in any games for the Jets.
