New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan could not get through one week without finding himself embroiled in controversy. As so often happens with Ryan, who just can’t seem to muzzle himself, this is a mess entirely of his own making.

During a Wednesday news conference with San Diego media in advance of Sunday’s Jets-Chargers game Ryan said he would have had “a couple of rings” if the Chargers had hired him back in 2007. Ryan interviewed for the head coaching job in San Diego that went to Norv Turner, who is still the San Diego coach.

Ryan tried to pass off his remark as a joke and said “Obviously, Norv Turner has done a great job there.”

Turner got in a shot of his own at Ryan, saying "I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he’s guaranteed the last couple of years.”

This is a silly mess, another non-sensical distraction Ryan caused by running his mouth before using his brain. You wonder if he will ever learn.
