NFL Power Rankings, Week 12: Aggregate Rankings For Jets, Giants

The Real Clear Sports aggregate NFL Power Rankings for Week 12 are pretty closely aligned with the SB Nation NFL Power Rankings released earlier this week.

Real Clear Sports takes the power rankings from major mainstream and blog sources across the Internet and averages them.

Using that method the New York Jets are the NFL’s No. 3 team, per Real Clear Sports. The Jets are ranked No. 1 by FOX and The Sporting News, and as low as No. 5 by AOL Fanhouse.

The New York Giants, No. 12 in the SB Nation rankings, come at No. 10 overall. AOL Fanhouse also puts the Giants at No. 12. Pro Football Talk puts the Giants at No. 9, highest of any of the power rankings.

The Jets host the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night. The Giants host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

NFL Power Rankings, Week 12: Jets At No. 4

The New York Jets came in No. 4 in the SB Nation Week 12 NFL Power Rankings, which were released today.

The Jets are 8-2 and have won three straight games. Each of those victories, however, has been a last-minute or overtime victory against a team thought to be inferior to the Jets. That includes Sunday’s 30-27 last-second victory over the Houston Texans. It seems voters penalized the Jets for the tight games.

Here is what SB Nation had to say about the Jets.

Five of the Jets eight wins have been by one score or less, including the last three by a total of nine points. You’d like to see better victories but a win is a win, especially if they keep doing it.

The top three teams in the rankings are New England (8-2), Green Bay (7-3) and Atlanta (7-3). The Jets are followed by Philadelphia (7-3), Baltimore (7-3) and Pittsburgh (7-3).

The Jets take on another team that should be no match for them on Thanksgiving night when they host the 2-8 Cincinnati Bengals at New Meadowlands Stadium.

NFL Power Rankings, Week 12: Giants Out Of Top 10

The New York Giants are tumbling in the NFC playoff picture, and the SB Nation Week 12 NFL Power Rankings.

Following consecutive losses to Dallas and Philadelphia the 6-4 Giants have fallen into second place in the NFC East behind 7-3 Philadelphia. They have also dropped all the way to No. 12 in the Power Rankings.

Two weeks ago, at 6-2 and with a five-game winning streak, the Giants had moved all the way up to No. 7. Now, they have lost ground in the fight for a playoff spot and respect with the voters.

Here is what SB Nation had to say about the Giants.

After winning five in a row, the Giants have now lost two in a row and first place in the NFC East. Upcoming games against the Jaguars and Redskins could get them back into contention though.

The Giants host the Jaguars and Redskins the next two weeks, and could desperately use victories both weeks to squelch rising talk of a second-half collapse for the second straight season.

The Giants task won’t be helped with injuries to starting receivers Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith, as well as backup Ramses Barden. The Giants are also competing with a makeshift offensive line.
