Darrelle Revis May Not Play Against Denver Because of Hamstring Injury

Watching Darrelle Revis in the New York Jets 29-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Monday Night Football it was obvious this was not vintage Revis.

Revis, who had missed the two previous games with a hamstring injury, admitted after the game he is not completely healthy. He also said he may not play this Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

“Right now, it’s very sore and very swollen,” said Revis, who didn’t believe that he strained his left hamstring again.

Revis, who was beat on Percy Harvin’s 34-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, admitted he was unsure whether he’d play against the Broncos on Sunday.

“I don’t know,” Revis said. “As of right now, we’re going to take it day by day like we’ve been doing and see how it goes.”

Revis felt soreness from the start of the game, but couldn’t pinpoint one specific moment that made his hamstring feel worse.

“I felt soreness during the game,” Revis. “I could tell my hamstring was hurting…. Some plays it would hurt and some plays it wouldn’t. It started in the first quarter. For me, it was just fighting through it. If I knew I was going to be a hindrance to the team, then I would have called it quits and went in.”

“This process is kind of frustrating, because I’ve never been hurt during the season,” Revis added. “I want to be out there so bad with my teammates and win games. I need to learn patience right now and get back to 100 percent.”

It really was not hard to see this injury coming after Revis missed all of training camp in a contract dispute. Jumping right into NFL games with no preparation is an invitation to injury.

The injury also bring to mind that suffered by Giants’ cornerback Aaron Ross last season. He suffered a hamstring injury in training camp, and it dogged him all season causing him to play in just four games. It seems Revis is also headed for a year-long struggle to get healthy.
