Rex Ryan said Wednesday that Tim Tebow will resume his role as the New York Jets' backup quarterback Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars -- if Tebow's fractured ribs have healed enough for him to play, that is.

So, after practice on Wednesday Tebow was besieged with questions about whether or not he would be ready to play in Jacksonville.

Could he play in a game right now? "Yes," Tebow said.

Could he take a hit? "I think so," he said.

Tebow starred collegiately at the University of Florida, so he was asked about returning to the scene of his previous glory. He was more expansive on that topic.

"It's definitely a lot of fun. I have a lot of family and friends who will be there. Jacksonville will always be a special place to me. It's where I grew up and where a lot of my family still calls home," Tebow said.

Tebow was largely a spectator in the Jets' quarterback circus this week. Fans might have been calling for him to start, but in truth the Jets' decision was between Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy. Sanchez, as we know, will remain the starter.

He said he's "not too worried" about being forgotten about.

Finally, will he be active Sunday?

"I think that's up to the trainers, doctors and coach, obviously, depending on how much I continue to heal (and) what the X-rays say," Tebow said.
