Mark Sanchez will remain the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Head coach Rex Ryan announced Wednesday morning that Sanchez, not Greg McElroy or Tim Tebow, would start Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At SB Nation's Jets website, Gang Green Nation, editor John Butchko is "disappointed, but not surprised." Writes Butchko:
"I guess the best thing I could say about this is I'm disappointed but not surprised. It doesn't matter how poorly you play on this team. If you're one of the favorites, you can't lose your job. If you have a compelling argument for the Jets keeping Sanchez in instead of giving Greg McElroy (or even Tim Tebow) a shot, I'd love to hear it because Sanchez has shown an inability to do basic things an NFL quarterback needs to do in order to succeed."
With Tebow inactive last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, McElroy replaced Sanchez in the second half and led the Jets only scoring drive in a 7-6 victory that kept the Jets' flickering playoff hopes alive.
Sanchez has a passer rating of 71.4 this season, lowest of any starting quarterback in the league. His 55 percent completion rate is also worst in the league among starters.
Jets' fans on Twitter have not been happy with the move. Here is some of the reaction:
I'm over the
@nyJets. Sanchez is the worst starting QB in the league! I hope fans start to boycott home games. We spend 2 much $ for this!
The band is playing as the ship sinks RT
