Rex Ryan admits Tim Tebow mistake

Rex Ryan feels he should not have let Tim Tebow dress for his team's game against the New England Patriots, as the backup quarterback - now possibly a starter - was dealing with fractured ribs. Ryan has not said who will start Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Rex Ryan says he should not have allowed Tim Tebow to dress for the New York Jets' Week 12 game Thanksgiving day against the New England Patriots.

Tebow suffered a pair of broken ribs against the Seattle Seahawks, but it wasn't discovered until after the team's victory over the St. Louis Rams. Despite the nature of the injury, the backup quarterback talked his way into being on the team's active roster for the game against the Patriots. He did not play, but was supposedly available in case of an injury to starter Mark Sanchez.

Meanwhile, third-stringer Greg McElroy was not dressed for that game. He was Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and eventually came into the game after Sanchez tossed three picks, leading the Jets on their first and only touchdown drive in a 7-6 win. Tebow was not available to play after Ryan left him on the inactive list.

It's unclear whether Tebow is healthy for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as all three quarterbacks are still in the mix to start. Ryan has not expressed whether or not McElroy's play on Sunday elevated him over Tebow on the depth chart, or who he plans on playing come gameday.
