Chargers vs. Jets 2012: New York offense brutal in loss

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

As has been the case most of the season, the Jets offense struggled mightily on Sunday in a loss to the Chargers.

The New York Jets' offense got off to a good start on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. With Greg McElroy at the helm, the Jets scored two touchdowns in the opening frame en route to a 14-7 lead. Unfortunately, that was about all the scoring the Jets would do, as New York put up just three points the rest of the game in a 27-17 loss.

When it was all said and done, the Jets managed just 225 yards of offense. There was plenty of blame to spread around, with McElroy and the offensive line getting most of it from SB Nation's Jets blog Gang Green Nation:

It wasn't all their fault. Greg McElroy's reluctance to throw the ball to all but the most wide open receiver led to protection problems. So did McElroy's bad movements in the pocket. At the end of the day, though, 11 sacks in a game speaks volumes about how bad the protection was in this game.

This poor offensive performance is just another in a long line of them for the Jets this season. McElroy proved to be not much of an upgrade over the benched Mark Sanchez, and Gang Green Nation does not see much future for the youngster as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

New York finishes up their disappointing season against the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.
