The Jets couldn't ask for a better time to have a bye week after getting dismantled at home by the Dolphins in Week 8, 30-9. It was the fourth loss in their last five games and came despite the fact that they out-gained Miami 363 total yards to just 236.
The loss caused the Jets to drop significantly in many power rankings, including Ryan Van Bibber's for SB Nation. Van Bibber dropped them into the bottom fourth of the league as they fell six spots:
The drop was even more significant in Brian Billick's rankings for FOX as he talked about the poor performance of the Jets special teams on Sunday:
22. The Jets' special teams units were just horrendous on Sunday . . . giving up a blocked punt, a block field goal, and an onside kick. I'd be scared to sit in Mike Westhoff's meeting room this week.
Each ESPN and CBS Sports' Pete Prisco only dropped the Jets one spot, but that was because each of their rankings already had the Jets well outside the top 20. As Jamison Hensley noted in the ESPN rankings, they've seemingly been particularly bad at home:
25. The Jets are finding home field to be a disadvantage. They're 2-3 at MetLife Stadium, including two losses by three touchdowns or more. (Hensley)
