The New York Jets will try to avoid the AFC East cellar this Sunday when they host the Miami Dolphins in a crucial divisional matchup. The Jets dropped a heartbreaking overtime thriller against the favored Patriots last week, and seemed to impress NFL pundits with their ability to hang in against New England.
Now the Dolphins come to town, a team the Jets edged out in the third week of the season. But Miami is much improved under first-year coach Joe Philbin and first-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Jets are slight favorites at home, with many predicting that Miami pulls out the win at MetLife Stadium.
SB Nation NFL expert Ryan Van Bibber predicts that it's the Dolphins who pull off the narrow win on the road this time. All three of Yahoo!'s NFL writers are unanimously on board with the Fins getting the win in the Meadowlands. The cadre of CBS experts also favor Miami, with four picking the Dolphins and three picking the Jets.
A loss would momentarily send the Jets to sole possession of last place in the AFC East, certainly not a distinction Rex Ryan and company were hoping for at the midpoint of the season.
