Islanders Vs. Jets Final Score: New York Scores Twice In Third Period For 3-1 Win

The Winnipeg Jets lit up the scoreboard first, but the New York Islanders responded with three straight goals on their way to a 3-1 win in Winnipeg on Tuesday night. Evgeni Nabokov turned back 37 shots in the win. He improved his goals against average to 1.87 since the All-Star break.

Chris Thorburn put the Jets up 1-0 on a backhander assisted by Jim Slater and Tanner Glass. It was just his third tally of the season. The lead lasted until the 3:55 mark of the second period, when Matt Moulson scored on a long slapshot just 23 seconds into a powerplay. The score was knotted at one goal apiece until early in the third period when P.A. Parenteau put back a deflection off of a shot by Milan Jurcina. Matt Martin iced the game for the Islanders with an empty-netter in the game's final minute.

The win improved the Islanders to 24-24-8 on the season. After the win they are still two games behind the Jets in the Eastern Conference standings, and six games behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for a playoff spot.
