Islanders Vs. Hurricanes Final Score: Isles Notch Two Empty-Netters In 5-2 Win

The New York Islanders scored their last two goals on an empty net on their way to a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

The Islanders took full advantage of their power play opportunities, scoring on two of their four chances to take 2-0 lead after two periods. The 'Canes would thunder back with two goals early in the third period, the first by Brandon Sutter and the second by Tim Brent on a Carolina power play.

John Tavares made the score 3-2 just 41 seconds after Carolina tied the game, catching goaltender Cam Ward out of position while trying to corral the puck outside of the crease. Tavares notched his second goal of the night on an empty net with just 23 second left in the game. Kevin Poulin started in net for the Isles, turning back 21 of 23 shots faced.
