Powered by two goals from John Tavares, including the game-winner in overtime, the New York Islanders strung together their third straight victory Saturday night, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 in overtime.

G Evgeni Nabokov was sensational, stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced, and Tavares extended his point streak to 12 games.

With just over a minute left in the extra period, Tavares beat veteran Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward, and the Islanders surpassed the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference standings.

Second-year stud Jeff Skinner tallied the Hurricanes lone goal, as he gave Carolina an early 1-0 lead before Tavares' second period equalizer.

The Islanders next play Monday night in Toronto, before hosting the Maple Leafs in the back half of a home and home leading up to the NHL All Star break.
