Stay connected for news and updates

The New York Islanders fell 3-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, thanks to some hot goaltending by Philly's Sergei Bobrovsky.

The New York Islanders dominated everywhere but on the scoreboard, out shooting the Philadelphia Flyers 35-22 but falling 3-2 Thursday night in Uniondale.

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky starred for the Flyers, turning back 33 of 34 shots on goal before John Tavares notched a his 15th tally of the season with 17 seconds left in the third period and Philadelphia already up 3-1. Bobrovsky pitched a shutout through two periods before Okposo made the score 2-1 off a rebound from a shot by Andrew MacDonald. Bobrovsky had perhaps the play of the game when he stopped Michael Grabner on a penalty shot just 2:49 into the game.

Evgeni Nabokov was kept relatively clean most of the night, but let the Flyers go up 2-0 on the Islanders. He gave up his first goal late in the first period, and later on a Flyers powerplay in the second. The Islanders had won three straight at home prior to Thursday's game. The Flyers improved to 26-12-4 on the season with the win.
