The New York Islanders secured a huge piece of their future on Wednesday by agreeing to a six-year, $33 million contract extension with John Tavares. The deal will be signed on Thursday in time for a press conference at 2 p.m.
Tavares was entering the final season of his three-year entry-level deal and was due to become a restricted free agent.

2013-14: $5 million
2014-15: $6 million
2015-16: $6 million
2016-17: $6 million
