The New York Islanders defeatedMontreal Thursday night to end a four-game winning streak, but lost goalie Evgeni Nabokov to injury in the process. Down to Rick DiPietro as their only netminder, the Islanders host the streaking Boston Bruins Saturday night (7 p.m., MSG Plus).
DiPietro entered the Canadiens game early in the first period after Nabokov suffered a groin injury while making a save. The backup goalie stopped 24 shots in relief, and the Islanders held on for a 4-3 win.
Nabokov was ruled out "indefinitely," and the team announced Friday, a day later, that normal starter Al Montoya strained his hamstring and is considered day-to-day. The team will need to recall a backup for DiPietro by game time on Saturday.
The Bruins have won seven straight games, including a 2-1 shootout victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. The Bruins have not lost since Oct. 29, when they fell to Montreal, 4-2, to complete a three-game losing skid.
