After restructuring his contract, Osi Umenyiora returned to practice Monday as the New York Giants held an OTA.
Umenyiora told reporters the Giants offered a multi-year deal, but he was more comfortable taking a one-year deal and becoming a free agent after the contract expires. If the Giants designate him as their franchise player next season, Umenyiora said he's okay with that.
He's also okay with coming off the bench, as long as he's backing up Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck.
Umenyiora had 25 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles during 2011 despite being limited by injuries to just nine games. He had 3.5 sacks during the playoffs as the Giants captured their second Super Bowl in the last five seasons.
