New York Giants Offseason 2012: Plaxico Burress Not An Option, Says Tom Coughlin

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday that the team has no interest in acquiring wide receiver Plaxico Burress, according to a New York Daily News report.

Speaking at the Giants Foundation Golf Outing at the Westchester Country Club on Tuesday, Coughlin said the Giants are not interested in adding any veteran wideouts despite losing Mario Manningham in free agency and Hakeem Nicks to a broken foot that is expected to sideline him for the next month.

"Let's find the next Victor Cruz," Coughlin said. "How about that one?"

Burress, who had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns in 201 with the New York Jets, is a free agent and spent four productive seasons with the Giants earlier in his career. But when asked whether the Giants have any interest in a reunion with the big red zone target, Coughlin shook his head and simply said, "No."

Ed Valentine of Big Blue View writes that it's a good idea not to bring back Burress.

Why would the Giants do this? Nicks is hurt right now. So, what? Indications are he should be back early in the regular season, if not for the beginning of the regular season. The Giants don't do panic, and they don't do the circus act -- at least not on purpose. Burress would definitely be a panic move, and I don't care how many years removed from the Giants or prison the guy is he would still be bringing the circus to town.
