Plaxico Burress returning to the New York Giants? Something that seemed like an incredible long shot due to a seemingly icy relationship between the recently released from prison former Giant and coach Tom Coughlin may actually have a chance of happening.
Burress, of course, caught the winning touchdown pass from Eli Manning in the 2007 Super Bowl victory over New England. He shot himself in the leg while carrying an unlicensed handgun in a Manhattan nighclub in the middle of the 2008 season and was sent to prison. He was released in June.
Burress recently described his relations with Coughlin as "ambivalent," and it seemed unlikely that Burress and Coughlin could find enough common ground to be willing to trust each other again.
The veteran coach, though, has reportedly said he is willing to talk with Burress.
Other current suitors for the soon-to-be 34-year-old wide receiver include the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams.
Burress back to the Giants would be a stunning event, something that really could not have predicted. The Giants, though, have missed the playoffs in each of the two seasons Burress has not played and there is immense pressure on Coughlin to get his team back into the postseason derby. Amazingly, maybe even enough pressure for him to go another round with Burress.
