Desperate for help on defense the New York Giants are reportedly bringing back linebacker Chase Blackburn, who played with the team from 2005-10.
With Michael Boley sidelined the past two weeks with a hamstring injury the Giants have been relying heavily on rookies Mark Herzlich, Jacquian Williams, Spencer Paysinger and Greg Jones. Their inexperience has hurt the Giants in many instances, although each player has shown potential.
Herzlich also left Monday’s 49-24 loss to New Orleans with an injury, the extent of which is not yet known.
Blackburn played 93 games for the Giants during the six full seasons he was with the team, making 17 starts. He was the Giants’ special teams captain last season. Blackburn originally made the Giants as an undrafted free agent.
As the signing is not yet official, the Giants have not made any announcement, nor has there been any word on who will be dropped from the roster to make room for Blackburn.
