New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was not alone at a Manhattan nightclub early Tuesday morning when a man fired gunshots, killing one person and wounding at least two others. Several of his New York teammates -- Chris Canty, Hakeem Nicks, Antrel Rolle and Aaron Ross -- were also there according to a report from The New York Times.
The players were reportedly celebrating the wide receiver's birthday, which was Friday.
"There is nothing to indicate that any of the well-known individuals in the club that night had anything to do with the shooing," said Paul J. Browne, the New York Police Department’s chief spokesman told the New York Times.
TMZ first reported that Cruz was present at the club, Juliet Supperclub, when a gunman opened fired.
"The only one I heard about initially was Victor, and thank God he was safe," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said on Wednesday. "I would speak to him as a parent would speak to their son. What happens good at 2:30, 3 in the morning, I've never been able to figure that one out. Beyond that is between he and I."
No discipline is expected from the team.
