The New York Giants have still not released any information on the hamstring injury suffered Sunday by linebacker Michael Boley during the team’s 27-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Boley was injured shortly before halftime and did not play in the second half. The veteran has become a leader on the Giants’ defense, calling many of the defensive signals with middle linebacker Jonathan Goff out for the season.
With Boley out, rookie undrafted free agent Spencer Paysinger saw his first significant playing time of the season on defense Sunday. The Giants are also using rookie linebackers Greg Jones and Jacquian Williams extensively.
“It’s actually kind of funny. We were talking about who on this defense would it hurt to lose and unanimously we talked about Boley," said Giants defensive captain Justin Tuck. "He is that guy that gets everyone setup, lined up. It’s tough. Hopefully it’s not as serious as it looked and we can get him back in the lineup as soon as possible. We definitely need him.”
Aaron Ross suffered a quad injury against the 49ers, but reports are that Ross is day-to-day and should be OK. He was replaced on punt returns Sunday by Victor Cruz, and Michael Coe took many of his snaps at cornerback.
