NFL Power Rankings, Week 13: Aggregate Scores For Jets, Giants

Let's take one final look at the Week 13 NFL Power Rankings, courtesy of the folks at Real Clear Sports. RCS compiles the rankings from nine major mainstream and fan sources, then aggregates them into an overall ranking.

This week, the aggregate total for the 9-2 New York Jets has them ranked No. 3 in the league. The Jets got a first-place vote from The Sporting News and a fourth-place vote from AOL Fanhouse. The other seven polls had them either second or third.

The 7-4 New York Giants came in 11th overall when scores of the nine polls were combined. The Giants' highest ranking was from The Sporting News, which had them No. 13. USA Today put the Giants all the way down at No. 13.

The No. 1 team in the RCS rankings is the Atlanta Falcons, who got first-place votes in six of the nine polls and edged the second-ranked New England Patriots.

Here is your complete top 10, with their aggregate RCS scores.

  1. Atlanta Falcons 1.56
  2. New England Patriots 2.0
  3. New York Jets 2.67
  4. Baltimore Ravens 4.33
  5. New Orleans Saints 5.44
  6. Pittsburgh Steelers 5.89
  7. Chicago Bears 7.56
  8. Green Bay Packers 7.56
  9. Philadelphia Eagles 8.67
  10. San Diego Chargers 10.56

NFL Power Rankings, Week 13: Jets, Giants In Top 10

The Week 13 NFL Power Rankings are not up yet, but that doesn't mean we don't have plenty of rankings to discuss. Our cohorts over at SB Nation Atlanta put together something each week that they call the Unbiased Power Rankings, using a mathematical formula to determine the best and worst teams.

Interestingly, when it's all said and done the formula pretty much coincides with the polls humans vote on. This week the 'unbiased' rankings have the New York Jets at No. 5 and the New York Giants at No. 10, just about right for both teams I believe.

For a quick comparison,'s Peter King has the Jets No. 3 and the Giants No. 11 in his weekly 'Fine Fifteen.'

Bigger concern for the Giants, though, is making the playoffs. At 7-4 it won't be easy in a crowded NFC playoff picture. The 'unbiased' rankings, in fact, have the Giants on the outside looking in when the playoffs begin.

The Jets (9-2) don't have to worry about getting in. The question is whether they will win the AFC East or end up as a wild-card, and Monday's showdown with New England will go a long way toward answering that question.
