Brad Childress Fired, Giants Will Face Another Interim Coach

When the New York Giants play the Minnesota Vikings in three weeks, the Vikings will have a new head coach. That is because the 3-7 Vikings today fired Brad Childress and replaced him on an interim basis with defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

That will make the second team the Giants have faced this season with an interim head coach. A week ago the Giants faced the Dallas Cowboys just days after owner Jerry Jones jettisoned Wade Phillips in favor of Jason Garrett with the Cowboys at 1-7. That did not work out well for New York as the Cowboys came to New Meadowlands Stadium and defeated the Giants, 33-20.

The Vikings' firing of Childress was hardly unexpected. Childress has never gotten along well with quarterback Brett Favre, and Childress engineered the ouster of Randy Moss a couple of weeks ago without consulting ownership. Childress was nearly fired two weeks ago, but kept his job after the Vikings rallied for a 27-24 victory over Arizona. Successive lossed to Chicago and Green Bay, most recently Sunday's 31-3 embarrassment by the Packers, cost him his job, however.
