Kenny Phillips injury: Return is doubtful for Giants' safety

Stay connected for news and updates

A knee injury has forced New York Giants' safety Kenny Phillips to leave Sunday night's showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles early, and according to the Giants' official Twitter feed his return is doubtful. Phillips, a five-year veteran that has spent his whole career with New York, went down in the first quarter with an apparent knee sprain.

Despite walking off on his own power, Phillips' return doesn't look good. In his place will be Stevie Brown, a three-year player out of the University of Michigan. This season, Brown has played in all three of the Giants' games and has recorded five tackles and one interception. In his career, Brown has played for the Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders.

The loss of Phillips could be key for the Giants (2-1), who are trying to earn sole possession of first place in the NFC East Division. New York is trying to extended its winning streak to three straight games.
