Lawrence Tynes named NFC Special Teams Player of Week

Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the NFL on Wednesday. Tynes made a career-high five field goals in the Giants' 36-7 victory over the Carolina Panthers last Thursday.

Tynes set the career mark by making kicks from 47, 49, 30, 36 and 37 yards out. The total had been only reached by seven other Giants players and the first since Jay Feely did it vs. Washington on Oct. 30, 2005. The team record still stands at six made field goals.

Tynes is the second Giants player in as many weeks to receive an NFL weekly award, as wide out Hakeem Nicks won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after catching 10 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown in the Giants’ Week 2 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All time, this is Tynes third Player of the Week award as he earned the honor twice with the Kansas City Chiefs.
