Giants vs. Ravens, Week 16: New York fans disgusted with second straight debacle

Rob Carr

Despite the fact that they are fighting for their playoff lives, the Giants laid their second straight egg in Week 16 against the Ravens.

One week after getting embarrassed by the Atlanta Falcons, the defending champion New York Giants laid another egg against the Baltimore Ravens. The Giants fell behind 14-0 just over 10 minutes in the game and never recovered, losing 33-14 to a Ravens team that had been struggling mightily the past couple of weeks.

Nothing worked for the Giants on Sunday, as they were out-gained 533-186. It was quite a shocking effort for a team fighting for its playoff life in the NFC East. While New York still has a shot at making the playoffs, Ed Valentine at SB Nation's Giants blog Big Blue View says the team really does not deserve it:

The New York Giants are not a championship-caliber football team right now. And that is probably being kind. They still have a chance to make the playoffs in the NFC if they win next week against the Philadelphia Eagles and get lots of help, but they certainly can't claim to be deserving.

The Giants have lost five of seven and, playing games they knew they needed to win the past two weeks, have looked completely disinterested while being outscored 67-14 and outplayed every way imaginable. This is not the way a Super Bowl-winning team is supposed to go about defending its title.

Considering the Giants face the disappointing Eagles in Week 17, they still have a great shot to pick up a victory to get to 9-7. But as Valentine notes, New York will still need a lot of help to eke into the playoffs. The Giants had plenty of opportunities to ensure their spot, but have failed magnificently and will most likely be on the outside looking in.
