Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Nets, Mirza Teletovic Rearranging Contract To Protect Howard Trade Chances

The Brooklyn Nets have not quite given up on a potential trade for Dwight Howard. The Nets have been working hard to rearrange the contract of new signing Mirza Teletovic to ensure that they can still make a play for Howard or pay Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries to stay around if no Howard deal is possible (via SB Nation).

The Nets are trying to use their smaller mid-level exception (close to $3 million for three years) rather than the full mid-level exception which Teletovic was originally signed to. If the Nets and Teletovic can agree to rearrange his contract, Brooklyn will be able to surpass their $74.3 million in payroll. Being able to exceed that salary will allow the Nets to put together a package for Howard that won't be hampered by sign-and-trade scenarios. Previous reports stated that Humphries would be a likely player involved in a sign-and-trade for Howard.
