Dwight Howard chose to opt in for the final year of his contract, but Deron Williams isn't interested in playing a game of follow the leader.
The New Jersey Nets' star point guard said Friday that he still plans to opt out.
"I'm not going to opt-in. It's not monkey-see, monkey-do," Williams told the New York Daily News on Friday morning. "Wherever I go is hopefully where I'm going to retire."
As for comparing his own situation to Howard's, Williams wouldn't do it.
"I'm not (going through the same things) because I've said all year I'm going to play this whole year out and see what happens," Williams, who announced his intentions to opt out through his agent before the 2011-12 season began, told the newspaper. "So I haven't been flip-flopping and gone back-and-forth. It's not even close to being the same situation."
