Devils 1, Senators 0: Kovalchuk Nets 400th Goal In Win Over Ottawa

Stay connected for news and updates

Both the New Jersey Devils and the Ottawa Senators put 34 shots on net Tuesday night, but neither team was able to generate much offense.

Ilya Kovalchuk was the difference, scoring the 400th goal of his career on a power play one-timer from Marek Zidlicky late in the second period of a 1-0 win for the Devils

Johan Hedberg also played an important role, recording his second shutout in three games and fifth of the season. The defense obviously didn't do much to curb the number of shots he faced, but it did do a nice job cleaning up rebounds and eliminating second chance opportunities. Ben Bishop had a nice night in net for the Senators as well, though he'll get credited for the loss.

Zach Parise put eight shots on goal to lead all players on the night. The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Devils in Ottawa. New Jersey will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday before visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.
