Devils-Islanders Final Score: Devils 2, Islanders 1

In a game the Islanders had to have to keep faint playoff hopes alive, devastation reared its ugly head. New York gave up two goals in 14 seconds to blow the game, losing 1-0 to New Jersey at the Nassau Coliseum.

John Tavares scored the opening goal at 6:46 of the third period to break the scoreless tie. His 27th goal of the season was set up by Matt Moulson working along the boards and a quick pass by P.A. Parenteau.

Then, when all lost looked for the Devils, David Clarkson (28) made a strong move to come out from behind the net before beating Anders Nilssen. Then after a Parenteau boarding penalty, Marek Zidlicky (1) scored the game-winner to seal the deal.

The game was a stalemate through the first two periods, in which the New Jersey out-shot New York 21-16. Johan Hedberg single-handedly kept New Jersey in the game throughout the second period, making a couple of key saves in close including a beauty on Tavares.

On the other end, Nilssen was spectacular once again after shutting out the Devils as he earned his first career win on March 4th. Unfortunately, Nilssen saw the wheels come off in the final 1:39.

The Islanders (28-31-9) play the inter-state rival Rangers at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night. The Devils (39-24-5) will also have a quick turnaround, hosting Philadelphia on Sunday evening.
