Devils-Avalanche Final Score: New Jersey Trounced By Colorado, 6-1

The New Jersey Devils skated into the Pepsi Center on Wednesday night in Denver looking to get back into the win column against the Colorado Avalanche.

Instead, they ended up getting blown away by a final score of 6-1.

The Avalanche set the tone early in the first period, scoring three times beginning with Milan Hejduk's wristshot (assisted by Ryan O'Reilly and Gabriel Landeskog) at the 7:37 mark. T.J. Galiardi backhanded one in just a few minutes later and Jan Hejda (assisted by Matt Duchene and Ryan Wilson) closed out the first with a slapper to make it three-zip.

New Jersey's lone goal came in the second stanza when Ilya Kovalchuk (assisted by Adam Henrique and Zach Parise) wristed one in from 12 feet out to make it 3-1.

The third period went down much like the first: The Avalanche scored three goals and the Devils scored none. Ryan O'Reilly (assisted by Hejduk) needed less than three minutes to get on the board and he was followed up by a short-hander from Jay McClement (assisted by Kyle Quincey and Daniel Winnik).

Stefan Elliott (assisted by Quincey and O'Reilly) added insult to injury with less than three minutes to play, making it a 6-1 game after a 52-foot wrist shot.

Colorado improves to 11-13-1 with the win while New Jersey falls to 12-10-1 in defeat.
