Joe Johnson likes the NBA's new anti-flopping rules

Nets guard Joe Johnson is happy about the new anti-flopping rules.

The NBA announced penalties for players that are caught flopping to draw fouls on Wednesday, and Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Johnson is happy to see the new rules come into effect.

Johnson believes the new rules will help his game, according to SB Nation's Nets Daily:

"I'm not a flopper, so it's going to work to my advantage," Johnson said Thursday. "I'm always the guy who they are flopping on. Hopefully, they will take it out of the game and it will make the game a lot better."

Flopping took center stage throughout the 2012 NBA Playoffs, causing a negative reaction from fans and players. The NBA has decided to deal with the issue by enforcing penalties after-the-fact, rather than putting the pressure on referees to make decisions about flopping during the game. The league will fine players who repeatedly flop.

Players like Johnson, who receive isolation opportunities and use them to drive towards the basket, stand to have the most to gain if flopping is eliminated. Offensive fouls may be harder to come by if players are no longer allowed to fall to the floor on contact.

Under the new rules, a flop will be defined as "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player."
