After missing seven games, Brook Lopez could return to action on Friday night.

Brooklyn Nets' center Brook Lopez is listed as probable for tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons. Devin Kharpertian of The Brooklyn Game reports that if Lopez does return on Friday night, it will likely be in a limited capacity. Coach Avery Johnson said that Lopez will not play more than 24 minutes in his first game back.

Lopez has missed seven games with a sprained right foot that he suffered on Nov. 28 against the Boston Celtics. Since then, Brooklyn is just 2-5. While Andray Blatche has filled in well, the Nets will be eager to get their starting center back.

The Nets have struggled without Lopez on both sides of the court. He remains their leading scorer (18.5 PPG) and their third-best rebounder (6.8 RPG). Lopez's absence has also showed on defense. In their seven games without him, the Nets have allowed 99.9 points per game. Prior to the injury, Brooklyn was averaging 90.8 points allowed per game.

The New York Knicks have the best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference.

The New York Knicks (6-1) kept their spot atop the Atlantic Division despite suffering their first defeat on Friday, which came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies. On Thursday, however, New York notched an impressive victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

In second place, the Brooklyn Nets (5-2) have won four straight, including a 102-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday. The Celtics were without point guard Rajon Rondo for that contest.

Boston (5-4) is now tied for third place with the Philadelphia 76ers, who defeated the Utah Jazz on Friday night, 99-93. The Toronto Raptors (2-6) are in last place in the division, but they won their last game against the Indiana Pacers, 74-72, on Tuesday.

Around the Eastern Conference, the defending champion Miami Heat (7-3) appear to be as tough as they were last year. In addition, the Milwaukee Bucks (5-2) currently lead the Central Division. The Bucks remain relatively untested, as three of their five victories were over teams that currently have a losing record.
