St. John's and Seton Hall bow out while Georgetown and Louisville start their postseasons Thursday.
The Syracuse Orange, the No. 5 seed in their final Big East basketball tournament, advanced to Thursday's quarterfinal with a 75-63 win over Seton Hall Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. The Orange next face the No. 4 seed Pitt Panthers in a 2 p.m. ET game. The Panthers defeated Syracuse, 65-55, in the teams' only previous meeting.
In Wednesday's first game, No. 9 Cincinnati knocked out No. 8 Providence, 61-44, on a 17-point performance from guard Sean Kilpatrick. The Bearcats earn a quarterfinal date with top seed Georgetown Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon ET.
The St. John's Red Storm's remote NCAA tournament hopes ended Wednesday with a 66-53 loss to Villanova. The Wildcats, seeded seventh in this year's tournament, face Louisville on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Villanova, which likely cemented its own NCAA tourney status, defeated the Cardinals, 73-64, in January.
Rutgers, which defeated DePaul in Tuesday night's first round, plays No. 6 Notre Dame Wednesday night. The winner will take on No. 3 seed Marquette Thursday night. Both Wednesday night's game and Thursday night's quarterfinal are scheduled to begin at approximately 9 p.m. ET.
Coverage of all four Thursday quarterfinal contests will be available on ESPN. The full tournament bracket is available at the Big East's official website.
