Yankees 4, Orioles 5: Blown Call Ends New York's Rally One Run Short As Baltimore Moves Back Into Tie Atop AL East

A late rally by the New York Yankees ended one run short Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles when Mark Teixeira was called out at first base to end the game. The final score ended up 5-4, but replays showed that Teixeira was clearly safe with what would have been a game-tying fielder's choice.

The loss moved the Orioles back into a tie with the Yankees atop the AL East. Both clubs are 78-61 heading into Sunday and sit two games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays, who lost to the Texas Rangers on Saturday, 4-2.

Yankees ace CC Sabathia struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits and three home runs in 6 1/3 innings. New York was down 5-2 heading into the eighth, but Alex Rodriguez hit a home run with two outs in the inning and Nick Swisher grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the ninth, scoring Ichiro Suzuki from third.

With runners on the corners and one out, Teixeira hit a ground ball to second baseman Robert Andino, who flipped to shortstop J.J. Hardy in an attempt to turn a double play. Replays showed Teixeira clearly beat Hardy's throw with a dive into first base, but first base umpire Jerry Meals called him out as several Orioles pumped their fists in celebration.

The Yankees will send Freddy Garcia to the mound Sunday as they try to tie the series and take the division-lead. Zach Britton will toe the rubber for the Orioles.
