NFL Injury Report, Giants: Michael Coe Injury Weakens Depleted Secondary

In addition to a season-opening loss, which they suffered Wednesday night at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys by a 24-17 score, the one thing the New York Giants definitely did not need is another injury at the cornerback position. Unfortunately, they got that, too.

Michael Coe, starting in place of Prince Amukamara, left the game late in the third quarter after breaking up a potential touchdown pass to Kevin Ogletree. Amukamara, of course, is the starter because Terrell Thomas is once again on Injured Reserve. Cornerback Bruce Johnson is also on IR.

Coe, to be honest, did not play all that well. He got burned on several slant routes and a good portion of Ogletree's 114 receiving yards came at his expense. Coe's replacement, Justin Tryon, was absolutely torched by allas. Tryon surrendered a 34-yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin on a first-and-30 play that gave Dallas a 24-10 lead with 6:12 to play. Needing a stop right before the two-minute warning to get the ball back, Tryon surrendered a 13-yard completion to Ogletree on third-and-10 and the Cowboys ran out the clock from there.

Coe said after the game he thought we would be able to play when the Giants face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 (Sept. 16). Amukamara (high ankle sprain) also hopes to be ready by then.

Those would be positive developments for the Giants. It was obvious Wednesday night that they need all the help they can get at cornerback.
