Rain has washed out action at the U.S. Open for the time being, suspending several matches still in play, although the night session - featuring what could be Andy Roddick's final match - is still scheduled for 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Two singles matches were underway when play was stopped. No. 4 David Ferrer was two games away from finishing off No. 13 Richard Gasquet in a fourth-round match, although the match has been a close one: Ferrer won the first two sets 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) after rallying back from being down 4-2 in the second set to take the tiebreak. The third set was at 4-3 with Ferrer leading 30-15 on Gasquet's serve when play was called.

Meanwhile, No. 11 Marion Bartoli was coasting against No. 3 Maria Sharapova, up 4-0 in the first set. Sharapova will surely be glad to break Bartoli's momentum, as the quarterfinal match will be suspended until Wednesday.
