SB Nation released its Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Tuesday, and the New York Giants were ranked No. 9 by NFL editor Joel Thorman, while the Jets were 20th. The Giants (1-1) are the fifth-best team in the NFC, as they're ranked behind the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.
Here's what Thorman had to say about the Giants, who earned a thrilling 41-34 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
9. New York Giants (LW: 6, 1-1): Yes, they drop three spots after winning a game because I had them ranked a little too high to begin with. Eighth is a good spot for them. Good but not consistently great this season.
Meanwhile, here's what Thorman had to say about the Jets, who lost, 27-10, to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
20. New York Jets (LW: 15, 1-1): Two weeks ago they were doomed. Last week they were Super Bowl champs. This week they're back to being doomed.
SB Nation's rankings are similar to NFL.com's which has the Giants ranked ninth and the Jets slot No. 20. ESPN's Week 3 rankings have the Giants at No. 8 and the Jets ranked 18th. Also rankings the Giants eighth was Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, who had the Jets No. 19.
The best ranking for the Giants came from FOX Sports' Brian Billick, who ranked the defending Super Bowl champions seventh and the Jets No. 17.

SB Nation released its preseason NFL Power Rankings Tuesday, and the New York Jets were ranked No. 18 by NFL editor Joel Thorman. The Jets are the eighth-highest ranked team in the AFC, which is headed by the No. 3 New England Patriots. The Green Bay Packers snagged the ranking's top spot, while the defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants, came in at No. 2.
Here's what Thorman had to say about the Jets:
18. New York Jets (LW: 19): I can see two scenarios: 1.) A shutdown defense leading them to an 11-win season or 2.) a complete meltdown, five-win season. So we'll put them in the middle of the pack.
For those curious, New York's Week 1 opponent the Buffalo Bills were slotted just a spot ahead of Gang Green at No. 17.
17. Buffalo Bills (LW: 17): Second place in the AFC East looks possible. They will end up with a better record than the team right below them.

The New York Giants won the most recent Super Bowl, although nobody would blame you for forgetting over the din of New York's other NFL franchise.
They are again one of the top squads in the league, Joel Thorman of SB Nation writes in his final preseason rankings Tuesday, and the only team he had ahead of the reigning champions were the Green Bay Packers.
2. New York Giants (LW: 3): The lack of hype surrounding this team is ... strange. Seriously, a team in the biggest media market in the country and it seems like an afterthought to that other team in New York. It can rest easy knowing it is clearly the superior team.
The Giants were actually only 9-7 last season, despite their postseason run culminating in the championship. They only finished a game ahead of Philadelphia and Dallas, New York's Week 1 opponent in the NFC East. The Cowboys will be hoping a strong showing against the Giants can help propel them towards January:
15. Dallas Cowboys (LW: 15): It'd take a career year from Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray to take a big step and Dez Bryant to stay on the field every week, but it's not crazy to think this team can make a playoff run.
