Tim Tebow Tracker: Decoy, Special Teamer, Receiver ... But Not A Quarterback

Tim Tebow throws passes prior to Sunday's game against Miami. The Jets, though, don't seem to want him throwing any during games. Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

So much for that New York Jets quarterback controversy Tim Tebow was supposed to cause. After three games it seems obvious the Jets don't see Tebow as the threat to the absurdly average Mark Sanchez -- at least for now.

During Sunday's 23-20 overtime victory over the Miami Dolphins, Tebow played 12 offensive snaps. Only a couple of those were as a Wildcat quarterback. He was a running back, receiver, and mostly a decoy. Except for the one pass thrown to him that clanged off his face mask, that is.

Tebow did run a fake punt, gaining 5 yards and a first down that led to a field goal. That, however, has been his only real contribution in three games. He ended Sunday with 2 carries for 5 yards, and still has not attempted a pass this season. He has 8 carries this season for 33 yards, and has done just about everything except look like a quarterback. Or, really, like a guy who can make a major, consistent, contribution on the field. Mostly because you have to be on the field to do that.

And Tebow is, mostly, on the bench.
