The New York Jets have learned that star cornerback Darrelle Revis will miss the remainder of the 2012 NFL season with a torn ACL. This is a big blow to the team, and now head coach Rex Ryan and his staff will have to plan accordingly if they hope to contend for the playoffs in 2012. This is still a talented team with plenty of potential, but they may need to change their philosophies moving forward.
Here is what SB Nation's Jets blog, Gang Green Nation, had to say about the team's chances and what must change in the coming months.
Even with Revis, our defense wasn't exactly playing up to par. We have been gashed continuously on the ground. When it comes to getting big stops, those have been nonexistent also. This was a slightly above AVG defense at best. Now that we are without Revis for the rest of the season, things look very dire on D.
With very little to be excited about on defense, the only hope the 2012 Jets have is on offense. I know the idea of relying on our offense seems like a lost cause, but it is all we have. [...] This is your team Mark (Sanchez), not Revis'. Grab your teammates, bring them together, and put them on your back.
The Jets' upcoming slate of games is brutal, beginning with home games against the 49ers and Texans. Following a home visit with the Colts, the team heads to New England to take on the Patriots. The defense will need to step up in a big way, and as Gang Green Nation suggests, Mark Sanchez needs to emerge as the leader of the franchise.

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is officially out for the remainder of the 2012 season due to a torn ACL, according to head coach Rex Ryan.
Revis sustained the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's 23-20 overtime victory against the Miami Dolphins. He was untouched on the play, fell to the turf clutching his knee and required a cart to be removed from the field.
The loss is an enormous blow to the Jets' defense.
"That's the horrible thing that came out of the game." -- Rex on Revis injury #nyj

Sunday's game was Revis' first since suffering a concussion in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills when teammate Bart Scott accidentally kicked him in the head while pursuing Bills running back C.J. Spiller.

The New York Jets are fearing the worst for their All-Pro cornerback. After watching him get carted off the field with a knee injury during Sunday's 23-20 win against division rival Miami, the Jets are concerned that Darrelle Revis suffered a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament, which would end his season. Without Revis, the Jets relied on cornerbacks Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson to stop the Dolphins' passing game, and the two didn't do a spectacular job, allowing penalties and big plays throughout the second half.
Revis has been among the best, if not the best, corners in the game for the past four years. He's made four straight Pro Bowls, been named to three straight All-Pro teams, was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and led the conference in interception return yards last year. In the NFL's annual player rankings this offseason, Revis was named the No. 5 player in the league.
The Jets are 2-1 and will host the San Francisco 49ers next week, but Jets fans will shudder to think what two games against Tom Brady and the Patriots will look like without Revis in the secondary.
