Phillies Vs. Mets Final Score: Philadelphia Piles On New York, 16-1, To Earn Sweep

The Philadelphia Phillies scored eight runs in the first inning Thursday and never looked back, easily defeating the New York Mets, 16-1, to earn the series sweep at Citizens Bank Park.

Mets starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner (2-7) didn't even record an out in the first, surrendering seven earned runs on six hits and a walk. Phillies second baseman Chase Utley recorded two singles in the inning, knocking in two RBIs in the process. He finished with four hits and four RBIs on the night, as Philadelphia tallied 21 total hits.

New York went through 10 total pitchers in the blowout.

Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard drove in five RBI, including a grand slam in the ninth inning, where the Phillies poured on seven more runs.

Phillies starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd (2-1) threw eight innings, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out six.

Mets right fielder Mike Baxter was responsible for New York's lone run, launching a solo homer in the fifth.
