A 71-yard second-quarter rushing touchdown by senior running back Miguel Maysonet has helped the Stony Brook Seawolves earn a 17-14 halftime lead over the Syracuse Orange in a non-conference contest at the Carrier Dome. The Seawolves (2-0), a Football Championship Subdivision program, have never before beaten a Football Bowl Subdivision school like Syracuse (0-2).
Maysonet rushed for 139 yards on 13 carries and his score helped answer a SU touchdown, which helped give the Orange a 14-10 lead with 6 minutes and 10 seconds remaining in the first half.
Overall, Stony Brook has out gained the Syracuse offense, 261-220 (172 on the ground), while its defense has forced three Syracuse punts that have averaged just 37.3 yards.
Meanwhile, the Orange's offense, which entered ranked No. 1 in the Big East Conference, has had very little rhythm. Its only positives came on 22-yard touchdown run by freshman Ashton Broyld, which camped a 5-play, 72-yard drive, and a 61-yard touchdown reception by sophomore running back Prince-Tyson Gulley that helped SU tie the contest at 7-7 with 10:43 to go in the first quarter.
