The Jets may expand Joe McKnight's role in an unconventional way against the Steelers on Sunday. The Daily News has learned that McKnight, who was beaten out by Bilal Powell for the Jets' third-down running back job, practiced at cornerback this week
Pittsburgh, which used to be a ground-and-pound team, now seemingly have a pass-first offense with Ben Roethlisberger at the helm. With Darrelle Revis out with a concussion, the Jets could be thin at cornerback.
McKnight does have experience playing defense. As the Daily News pointed out, McKnight was a cornerback and free safety in high school, before transitioning to a full-time running back at USC.
If McKnight is used on defense, it almost certainly won't be in a featured role. Still, don't be alarmed if you see the Jets running back playing defensive back on Sunday -- it's by design.
