In the eighth inning, Jeter hit a ground ball off of reliever Chris Carpenter and was in the process of trying to beat out a double-play before coming up lame as he ran past the first base bag, according to Bombers Beat.
Jeter was attended to by head athletic trainer Steve Donahue and manager Joe Girardi before he walked off the field. This could be very problematic for the Yankees since Jeter already has a balky right ankle after rolling it in Tampa Bay not long ago.
With Mark Teixeira already out and a few hitters scuffling, New York can ill-afford to see another prominent players sidleined for any extended period of time.
Jayson Nix replaced Jeter at shortstop, with Casey McGehee entering the game to play third base.
