Northwestern scored the first two TDs of the third quarter to take a commanding 35-13 lead. But SU answered with two in the final 7 minutes, 43 seconds, the last being a 50-yard reception by sophomore wide out Jeremiah Kobena from quarterback Ryan Nassib, to trim the deficit to eight points.
Senior wide receiver Marcus Sales scored the first of the two TDs for SU, as he caught a seven-yard pass from Nassib with 2:21 to play and helped cut the lead to 35-20.
Arugiuzzo tallied the quarter's first TD when he picked up a fumble from Syracuse running back Jerome Smith, who dropped a backward pass from Nassib, and ran 33 yards into the end zone.
On the next Northwestern possession, junior quarterback Kain Colter scored from one-yard out, capping a 8-play, 78-yard drive that gave the Wildcats their largest lead (22 points) with 7:34 to play.
