Team USA Vs. Japan Women's Soccer Final Score: Carli Lloyd Scores Game-Winner For U.S. In 2-1 Victory

Team USA Women's Soccer defeated Japan, 2-1, in the Gold Medal match on Thursday at the 2012 London Olympics.

Rutgers grad and Delran, N.J., native Carli Lloyd scored the game-winning goal for the U.S., as she did in 2008 in Beijing. Lloyd scored both goals for the U.S. in the match. The first goal came in the eighth minute when Lloyd slipped into the penalty area and got her head to a cross from Alex Morgan. Lloyd made a swashbuckling run through the midfield in the 54th minute and then placed a shot into the side netting for the eventual game-winner.

Japan gave the U.S. plenty to worry about before and after the 2-0 lead. The Japanese side struck the crossbar twice after the eighth minute goal by Lloyd, collected a goal in the 63rd minute (Yuki Ogimi) after some shaky defending by the U.S. and created several other chances after Lloyd's second goal.

With the win, the U.S. women became the first soccer team in the history of the Olympic tournament to win four gold medals and three gold medals in a row.
