Adewale Ojomo of the New York Giants barreled around right end, with New England Patriots reserve quarterback/sitting duck Brian Hoyer in his sights. Ojomo reached Hoyer, swatted at the ball with his best Osi Umenyiora impersonation and knocked the ball to the ground.
Marcus Thomas of the Giants recovered the ball and returned it to the New England 20-yard line with 2:27 to play, setting up what would become a game-winning 32-yard Lawrence Tynes field goal in the Giants' 6-3 victory on Wednesday night.
Not only did Ojomo set up the victory, saving the Giants and Patriots the aggravation of having to play overtime in a preseason game, he might have forced his way onto the season-opening 53-man roster.
Ojomo, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound undrafted free agent defensive end from Miami, finished the preseason with a team-leading four sacks. He also played impressive run defense Wednesday, getting three tackles. He finished the preseason with 10 tackles to go along with his four sacks.
"This is a first class organization …," the defensive end said of his chances of making the team. "I would love to be a part of it besides the high taxes and the high rent. Besides that I would love to be a part of this city and this team."
We won't find out until Friday is Ojomo has convinced the Giants he belongs. That is when teams have to reach the 53-man regular-season roster limit. He has, however, convinced Giants' defensive captain Justin Tuck that he belongs in the league.
"He had a great game. A great preseason. He’s talented. He’s definitely making a case to be on this football team. And if not on this one, he’s proven he can play in this league," Tuck said after Wednesday's game.
[Complete Ojomo post-game transcript]
The Giants have Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul and Umenyiora at defensive end. There is, however, an opening as fourth defensive end Dave Tollefson left for the Oakland Raiders via free agency.
Adrian Tracy, a sixth-round pick by the Giants in 2009, has been considered the leader for that spot. Undrafted free agent Matt Broha, an Craig Marshall, a member of the Giants practice squad a season ago, are also bidding for the spot.
"I’m confident in myself and confident in my abilities,'' Ojomo said. "I don’t think I’m a fluke, I think I could go out each and every week every Sunday and do what I need to do.''
We find out soon enough if the Giants will give him a chance to do it for them.

Lawrence Tynes kicked a 32-yard field goal with 1:03 remaining to give the New York Giants a 6-3 victory over the New England Patriots Wednesday night in the preseason finale for both teams.
The game looked like it unfortunately might be heading to overtime until Giants defensive end Adewale Ojomo sacked New England quarterback Brian Hoyer, forcing a a fumble that Marcus Thomas of the Giants recovered and returned to New England's 20-yard line with 2:27 to play.
After Tynes' field goal New England moved to the New York 40-yard line, but a deep pass by Hoyer was intercepted by New York cornerback Laron Scott with 12 seconds left to play.
Ojomo, an undrafted free agent defensive end, continued his bid for a roster spot with three tackles along with his sack and forced fumble.
Eli Manning played a little more than a quarter for the Giants, completing 4-of-8 passes for 29 yards. Backup David Carr went 11-for-18 for 136 yards.
Andre Brown carries 14 times for 55 yards for the Giants. He also caught two passes for 22 yards. Da'Rel Scott carried nine times for 32 yards and had an 18-yard reception.
Ramses Barden caught four passes for 31 yards.
Defensively, Spencer Paysinger and Dwayne Hendricks each had six tackles. Matt Broha and Craig Marshall, both dfensive ends, each registered 1.5 sacks.
The Giants open the regular season next Wednesday in the NFL Kickoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants have released its roster for Wednesday night's preseason finale against the New England Patriots, and as expected defensive ends Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul and linebacker Mathia Kiwanuka will not play, reports Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger. The only surprise was that cornerback Bruce Johnson is also out.
Here's a look at the Giants' depleted defensive depth chart (via Garafolo):

Also announced, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks will play, but that was expected as he's trying to recover from a injured foot. Earlier in the week, the 6'1, 208-pound wide out said he felt 100-percent for the contest.

The New York Giants (1-2) conclude their preseason schedule by playing host to the New England Patriots (1-2) Wednesday night at MetLife Stadium. Coverage on WNBC in New York begins at 7 p.m. with the game over the local radio airwaves on WCBS-AM 880.
LAST SATURDAY AT THE MET
Two players in particular stood out in the Giants’ 20-17 loss to the Bears. Rookie running back David Wilson started for Ahmad Bradshaw (hand) and rushed for a game-high 49 yards on five carries while catching two passes for 26 yards. Ramses Barden’s 46 receiving yards and a touchdown probably secured his spot on the final roster and boosted his candidacy for the third receiver’s job.
THE LAST TIME
There was a gathering in downtown Indianapolis where for the second time in four years Eli Manning and the Giants got the best of Tom Brady and the Patriots. While 2008 in Arizona had Manning to David Tyree, Super Bowl XLVI had Manning to Mario Manningham and an equal amount of drama even without the Patriots going for an undefeated season. Like Super Bowl XLII, the Giants scored late and held off one final Brady drive to be crowned World Champions.
As an aside, I find it funny that the NFL Network is billing the preseason finale for both teams as a “Super Bowl rematch.” Okey Dokey.
STATE OF THE G-MEN
The Giants removed 15 players from their roster on Monday to reach the required limit of 75. Two veterans, defensive tackle Chris Canty and tight end Travis Beckum, were played on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and will miss at least the first six games of the season. Among the veterans waived were three with NFL experience: tight end Ryan Purvis, defensive tackle Carlton Powell and defensive back Chris Horton
By 9 p.m. on Friday, the Giants will have to submit their regular-season roster limit of 53 players.
BOSTON’S BRIDESMAIDS
You obviously know about Brady and Belichick. If not and you call yourself a Giants fan I’m willing to bet you have real estate on Mars. The question is how the Patriots’ makeshift offensive line will keep Brady intact without Pro Bowl left guard Logan Mankins (ACL) and projected starting right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back), each of whom are recovering from offseason surgeries.
The Patriots have an abundance of tight ends. Months after All-Pro Rob Gronkowski was signed through 2019, Aaron Hernandez received a new five-year contract on Monday.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Hakeem Nicks is itching to play in a game. Tom Coughlin hasn’t determined whether he’ll actually compete on Wednesday, but Nicks felt 100 percent for the first time on Sunday … David Douglas and Adewale Ojomo, two undrafted rookies who have emerged as pleasant surprises, have one last opportunity to prove themselves worthy of a roster spot. Douglas has a legit shot at special teams, possibly as a punt returner. Although Ojomo has three sacks, he’s also a defensive end and the Giants are very deep at that position, which means he could end up a victim of a numbers game and on the practice squad.
WHAT NOT TO WATCH FOR
Marquee starters on both sides will see little to no action. After all, the Giants go at it for real a week from tonight.
QUOTABLE
“I can’t wait to get some live action, knowing somebody’s gonna be hitting me after I catch the ball, so that’s what I look forward to. In practice, ain’t nobody touching you. Being able to catch the ball, have to make a move and really turn it on a little bit before you actually have to play in the season-opener (against the ”sbn-auto-link" href=“http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/dallas-cowboys”>Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 5) is good." – Hakeem Nicks

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said on Monday that he is preparing to play against the New England Patriots in the team's final preseason game on Wednesday night. Nicks has yet to play in the preseason after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in May.
Via ESPN New York:
"As of right now, I was told I was gonna take some snaps," said Nicks, who added that he began to feel 100 percent in Sunday's practice, "but if they decide to change (their minds), I'm sure they'll let me know, and whatever decision they make, I'm gonna roll with it."
Coach Tom Coughlin was less definite, electing to take his time before making a final decision on whether the 24-year-old receiver will participate in the game.

The New York Giants are busy preparing for their final preseason game with the Patriots, as well as the regular season opener with the Cowboys that is a little more than a week away. The Giants have been banged up a bit in training camp with injuries, especially to those players on the defensive side of the ball.
Head coach Tom Coughlin addressed the media on Monday and discussed the numerous players the team was looking to get healthy in the coming days. Here are some of the highlights.
All quotes are courtesy of SB Nation's Giants blog, Big Blue View.
Q: Is Hakeem Nicks playing in the last preseason game?
Coughlin: We'll see. I'm going to check. We were scheduled to go outside (practice was moved indoors due to rain) as you know, and right at the time of practice we got the storm, so we came in here, and if he did well in here, then I would feel pretty good.
Q: Where was Justin Tuck?
Coughlin: Those guys all made the trip over to HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery). They had various appointments with Dr. Warren over there, so this was the day to do that.
Q: What was Tuck's issue?
Coughlin: Shoulder. It's just a precautionary test to see exactly where he's at, and what needs to be done, so he's ready to go for the season.
Q: Any news on Prince Amukamara?
Coughlin: (shakes head) He was hobbling around without the boot today.
Q: You mentioned the injuries at the cornerback position. Here you are without Canty, Austin, Pierre-Paul, Tuck ... Is this something that's a worry for you on the frontline too?
Coughlin: If you're talking about tomorrow, that's one thing. But if you're talking about Wednesday, that's one thing. If you're talking about next week, I feel obviously a lot better.
Q: Do you feel like most of these guys are going to be back in time?
Coughlin: You can't lump them all together. You've got to take them one at a time and try to assess where they all are. Do I expect the three ends back? Yeah, I do. Do I expect Marvin Austin? I don't know about that one. Everyday, I want to know more and more about that and it starts going one way and then there's a little issue.
