New York Yankees React to Boston-Los Angeles Trade

Earlier this weekend, the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers undertook a nine-player trade, the largest in the history of the Los Angeles franchise, which sent four players to the Dodgers and five to the Red Sox. The Red Sox gave up Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to acquire James Loney, Ivan de Jesus, Jerry Sands and a pair of minor-league prospects. The move will save Boston nearly a quarter of a billion dollars through 2018.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira says that he feels the Red Sox aren't finished trading.

"Anyone who thinks Boston’s going to clear their payroll to $40 million for the next five years is crazy. I’m sure they have a few more tricks up their sleeve."

Yankees pitcher Derek Lowe, a former member of the Red Sox, agrees with Teixeira, but was surprised by the move.

"I think everyone’s still shaking their heads, wondering how in the world this even happened," Lowe said, adding that he is sure that Red Sox fans will "want answers" from Boston's ownership regarding this trade, as well as the future of Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

Lowe clarified his suspicions of Red Sox fans' likely reaction to this trade, explaining that Boston is "very passionate, very intense, with the kind of expectations of what their team should look and play like."
