Ivan Nova Injury: Yankees Officially Place Right-Hander On DL

Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova has been diagnosed with inflammation in his right rotator cuff. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list and won’t pick up a baseball for five days.

Nova told reporters on Wednesday that he felt a “grab” in his pitching shoulder during Tuesday’s outing in Chicago, where he allowed six runs in six innings pitched, and was sent back to New York for testing. His next scheduled start was Monday against the Blue Jays at Yankees Stadium. Rookie David Phelps is expected to take Nova’s spot in the rotation.

CC Sabathia (elbow) is set to come off the disabled list and pitch Friday night against the Indians. Nova to the DL creates room for Sabathia on the 25-man roster.

Ivan Nova Injury: Shoulder Stiffness Sidelines Yankee Starter

The New York Yankees will send pitcher Ivan Nova for tests after he reported shoulder stiffness. The news came Wednesday, a day after the right-handed starter was roughed up in a 7-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox and was possible on the verge of being kicked out of the team's five-man pitching rotation.

According to a few reports, Nova (11-7) felt a grab in the sixth inning of his third loss in four starts and was sent back to New York for tests. The Yankees are expecting ace CC Sabathia to return to the rotation Friday and his replacement, David Phelps, probably will stay in the rotation to fill the void.

For most of the season Nova had been outstanding, as he raced out to a 10-3 record with a 3.93 ERA. However, Nova has really struggled lately, as his ERA has ballooned to 4.92.
